You can't be a happy librarian if you are not a happy person.
Dr. Laurie Santos of Yale University has spent thousands of hours teaching others how to become happy. Dr. Santos designed The Science of Well-Being, a course taught at Yale (the most popular course ever taught at Yale!) and is now free online for everyone. TLDR: Happiness is experiences, not things; happiness means taking care of yourself too.
To be happy:
Connect with others: Spend real physical time with friends and family instead of looking at social media.
Be other-oriented: Focus on helping people through volunteering, donating, or giving small compliments.
Practice gratitude: Write down three to five things you are thankful for every night.
Move your body: Get at least 20 minutes of moderate physical activity or cardio each day.
Prioritize sleep: Do not skimp on getting proper rest.
Accept negative emotions: Treat bad feelings like a car dashboard warning light—they give you useful signals about what needs to change rather than meaning you are broken.
