Take a look at America’s happiness trend.
There is little correlation between happiness, gender, age, and region, but race, education, place of residence, political ideology, and trust in government and others are consequential to happiness in Americans.
The good news: librarians have higher education!
The bad news: your location really affects how positive your library experience may be. And depending on your location, you may or may not trust your local government.
So what about librarian happiness stats?
Librarians are above average in happiness…a little happier than a tailor, and we make more than funeral directors. Facts.
But consistent messages across multiple areas of librarianship state a desire for increased pay and respect are the common public complaints for librarian unhappiness, according to the School Library Journal, Library Journal, and LibLime.
And then there’s the Reddit rabbit hole…which will not make you feel any better.
